DESCRIPTION:Next Wednesday\, September 9\, 2015\, the Beaumont Police Officers Association will host a memorial fund raiser for Officer Jared “Ty” Smith\, an 8 year veteran of the Beaumont Police Department who passed away on Monday August 31 after a valiant battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.  Proceeds from this link/boudain sale will benefit Ty’s wife to help pay enormous out-of-pocket expenses incurred during his illness.  Please participate if you are able.\nOfficer Jared “Ty” Smith\nMarch 24\, 1978 – August 31\, 2015\nOfficer Jared “Ty” Smith\, 37\, of Lumberton\, died Monday\, August 31\, 2015\, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center\, Houston. He was born on March 24\, 1978\, in Port Arthur\, to Joni Lewis Smith and Jared Smith\, and was a lifelong resident of the area.\nTy was an athlete his entire life. He ran Track and Cross Country at Lamar University. After graduating from Lamar University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice\, Ty went into a career in law enforcement. He first worked as a probation officer for Hardin County\, and later became an officer with the Beaumont Police Department\, where he served almost 6 years on the Special Response Team. Ty had a love for Jeeps and was a member of the Southeast Texas Jeepers Club.\nSurvivors include his wife\, Alicia Smith of Lumberton; mother\, Joni Hanley and her husband\, Mitch\, of Winnie; father\, Jared Smith and his wife\, Diane\, of Nederland; brother\, Colt Smith and his wife\, Kara\, of Nederland; grandmother\, Jesslyn Lewis of Nederland; stepbrothers\, Officer Mitch Hanley\, Jr. and his wife\, Yvain; and Shae Hanley and his wife\, Amy; stepsisters\, Mallory Pagan and her husband\, Anthony; and Carly Block and her husband\, Bryant; nephews\, Koby Smith\, Cooper Smith\, Ethan Rascoe\, Hagan Rascoe\, Wyatt Rascoe\, Dexter Hanley\, Dutch Hanley\, Seth Hanley\, Weston Block\, Coen Pagan\, and Bryson Pagan; nieces\, Aliina Rascoe\, Olivia Rascoe\, Kaia Hanley\, and Gracie Hanley; father and mother-in-law\, Tim and LeeAnn Rascoe; brothers-in-law\, Eric Rascoe and his wife\, Christie; and Brandon Rascoe and his wife\, Chrissy; a host of friends\, and numerous men and women in blue.\nA gathering of Officer Smith’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.\, Friday\, September 4\, 2015\, at Broussard’s\, 2000 McFaddin Avenue\, Beaumont. DESCRIPTION:The Crime Stoppers Larry Beaulieu Scholarship was created to support the education and development of  sons and daughters of area law enforcement officers and to also honor the visionary leadership of the agency’s founding chairman\, Mr. Larry Beaulieu. \nThis year’s recipient is Mr. Daniel Valdez\, son of Beaumont Police Officer Danny Valdez and his wife\, Kathy.  Daniel is a recent graduate of Kelly High School where he held numerous leadership roles.  He is also active in his church and has served in several leadership capacities with Beaumont Police Explorer Post 730. \nPlease join us in congratulating Mr. Valdez and his parents. \n
