This week Crime Stoppers needs your help solving the homicide of Herbert Chopane. On Sunday, August 31, at about 7:24 pm, patrol officers responded to a shooting at the Northridge Manor Apartments located in the 4000 block of Maida. Upon arrival, officers located Herbert Chopane, a 37 year old Beaumont man, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Beaumont EMS transported Chopane to St. Elizabeth ER where doctors pronounced him dead.
Witnesses said Chopane went to the apartment complex seeking retribution for an earlier disturbance. When Chopane arrived at the complex, a second disturbance broke out and an unknown person shot Chopane.
Detectives are in the process of interviewing possible witnesses to confirm the identity of the people involved in the original disturbance. We know there are witnesses that are afraid to come forward. We would like to remind any witness that all calls made to Crime Stoppers are anonymous. You do not have to give your name and your information could lead not only to justice for Chopane’s loved ones, but you could receive a cash reward for your information.
