Crime Stoppers needs your help solving a homicide.
On April 3, 2014 at 4:37 a.m. officers responded to a reported minor vehicle crash at the intersection of 11th Street and Laurel Street. The female caller said a man involved in the crash had a rifle. The caller hung up and when 911 operators phoned her back, she said that the man had just shot her friend.
Officers converged on the area and located the female caller. She was uninjured. The female shooting victim died at the scene.
Officers also found a second shooting victim at the scene, an unrelated passer-by, who had stopped to help at the crash. Beaumont EMS transported the male passerby to St. Elizabeth ER for his gunshot wound. ER personnel admitted him and listed him in stable condition.
The young woman killed was Dominique R. Reed. Dominique was a 22-year-old Beaumont resident.
Detectives do not feel this was a random act. There is some prior connection between the two females in the car and the shooter. Detectives are working to determine the nature of that prior connection.
Witnesses described the suspect as a Hispanic male, short and heavy-set, with a possible eye abnormality. They last saw him fleeing the area immediately after the shooting. He was driving a dark colored, older model pickup truck and was armed with a rifle.
